Short Beach

Hobart Saturday Morning Rows (each Sat morning weather permitting):

  • What: Row for pleasure, a bit of exercise and a coffee stop along the way. Destinations are coffee shops in Cornelian Bay, Lindisfarne Bay (both above the Tasman Bridge), Bellerive Bay, Constitution Dock and Sandy Bay Long Beach (all below the Bridge). If we go to Constitution Dock, it is usually on the way back from a row up to the Tasman Bridge.
  • Where: Leave from and return to Short Beach on Marieville Esplanade, Sandy Bay.

Hi Rowers and Galley Slaves

THE FORECAST for Hobart, in the morning is for moderate southerlies, moving from 13 knots to 15knots.  Great sailing weather.  We might find it OK though if we head down river close to the shore and have coffee at Long Beach.  We can check out the best option in the morning though.

If we do row down river, we could head out beyond the shelter and have some fun on the swell/waves coming up to the John Garrow light.

Regards, Allan

IT PAYS TO SUCK AND SEE!  The conditions proved to be excellent.  The rain had gone and the southerlies and did not start till quite late in the morning and with a gentle start too.  With an unexciting forecast and some regulars away, it was just Jackie and me.  Jack was able to try out her elbow (successfully) after a long time getting over a tennis elbow injury.  Getting back in her boat was good – along with the coffee at the The Beachouse Cafe at Long Beach.

First pic is from today and the second is from a year ago – our third group row.

Fancy Free on Long Beach
