Short Beach

Hobart Saturday Morning Rows (each Sat morning weather permitting):

  • What: Row for pleasure, a bit of exercise and a coffee stop along the way. Destinations are coffee shops in Cornelian Bay, Lindisfarne Bay (both above the Tasman Bridge), Bellerive Bay, Constitution Dock and Sandy Bay Long Beach (all below the Bridge). If we go to Constitution Dock, it is usually on the way back from a row up to the Tasman Bridge.
  • Where: Leave from and return to Short Beach on Marieville Esplanade, Sandy Bay.

Hi Rowers and Galley slaves

Apologies that this is so late on Friday evening.

Forecast conditions for the morning remain good and may change from gentle to light northerlies.

I am looking forward to being on the water but the week has been quite ‘grey’. Some of you will know, but others not, that Victoria Bishop died in a car accident early in the week. Many of you have visited the Bishop’s home at Bullock Point, often helping me take boats to and from Bullock Point including Vic’s ‘Proto’ (the first5.5m Derwent Skiff). Some of you even nick named Bullock Point as Paradise. It is a very beautiful and restful place and Vic’s
welcome, enthusiasm and attention to the extensive garden was a big part of that.

Being on the water together will be good.

Pic from Trevor from last weekend on the Clarence.

Hi Rowers and Galley Slaves

It was a good row for three of us across to Bellerive for coffee (outside in front of the pub and looking out over the boats). The return with the breeze behind was easy.

Short beach was busy with rowers and catamarans. If congestion, especially parking becomes an issue, we might need to consider another venue.

Quite a few of us will be absent next Saturday for Victoria Bishop’s funeral.
